About Us

WELCOME

Avar Writing is a thriving writing school located in Vancouver. The school specializes in teaching students academic essay writing and prepares them for the BC English Provincial Exam. We focus on laying the foundation for the most important skills needed for academic success: critical reading, critical analysis and perfectly structured essays that display insight, originality and sophisticated sentence structure. Avar Writing educates students to the highest standards as we incorporate BC High School and IB materials in our classes. Our goal is to teach students superb writing skills through an easy-to-understand approach that brings structure and order to challenging literary concepts. We want students to exceed the expectations of the high school system and smoothly transition to university-level English in Canadian, American and British schools.

OUR APPROACH

We immerse students in a small classroom environment. Each class begins with structured instruction as students are taught how to critically view and understand literature genres, such as poetry and fiction. After learning how to analyze literature, students continue the analytical process through academic essay writing. What makes our approach different from other English classes is that the writing process is incredibly thorough, structured, analysis focused, and interactive. Students receive individual feedback continuously as they write, and this enables them to walk away understanding new concepts after each lesson. While conventional tutoring may help students through individual assignments, our approach is not a Band-Aid solution. Instead, our classes teach lifelong critical thinking skills and exceptional writing skills that students can take with them to university and beyond.

Testimonials

Susan is a passionate teacher who puts a lot of effort into helping her students. During the two years she taught me, my English improved tremendously. As a teacher, Susan has her own strategy of teaching, and she utilises her two hours of teaching time very wisely. During the time we dealt with provincial exams, although it was tiring, I felt there was a great improvement in my English!

Susan is an enthusiastic and responsible teacher who is extremely proficient in academic English writing. Over the past two years, she's been working with me in developing my English writing skills including forming thesis statements, structuring arguments, and practicing formal grammar usage. As an English student, I improved greatly in academic writing and, thanks to Susan's efforts, I achieved an "A-" in my first year university English course!

It wasn’t until I got to first year university that I realized how incredibly valuable Susan’s classes have been. Even though I’m in Applied Sciences, I see now how important English and good writing skills are for absolutely everything I do!
